RQTN
What inspires RQTN to continue creating music?
I don’t really know. My inspiration comes from so many things I can’t tell. But there are some obvious sources : movies, music, travels, and people I meet / have met…
I don’t know exactly how many times I said to myself “Hey, this is crap, you cannot do it anymore”. And then I stopped RQTN. And then I started it again a couple of weeks later.
It’s a thing inside of me I guess.
Your last release, Monolithes En Mouvement, was a great success, what’s next?
Can’t say if it was a success so far, but it was the reflection of my state of mind for a period of my life, and that is sufficient for me.
Next release will be, in fact, slightly different. I’m composing since october 09, and the first thing coming up when you listen to the new tracks is the ambiance. If you listened so many times to Monolithes (I listened so many times to Monolithes I guess), you’ll notice that the new songs are not this dark, not as oppressive as Monolithes’s song were. I use more instruments too, like synthetizers. But you know, with me, you can never be sure. Maybe I’ll erase all the new songs, stop RQTN, and then restart it with completly different things. Who knows ?
Post Rock generates creative (and often lengthy) band and track names, how does RQTN come up with these?
Well, can’t tell I’m the exception. If you take a look on Monolithes’s songs titles, you’ll notice that they’re badly long, badly written in a hazardous poetry, and badly conceptual. I’ll try to make an effort for the next one, I promise.
How does RQTN decide which tracks will be on a release? testing them at gigs, or a different method?
I do not play gigs and do not want to. It just depends on myself and the advice of people around me.
What have you been listening to recently that you would recommend to your fan base?
It is not out yet, but when it will be, make yourself sure to listen the new Dawnshape album, Sparse Prism. Ok, they are friends of mine, but even if they weren’t… wow. I just listened to an advance version, and it kicks ass so far. Hmm, and for the recommendations: Kanye West – 808′s & Heartbreaks, Copeland – You Are My Sunshine, Bat For Lashes – Two Suns, Bersarin Quartett – Bersarin Quartett…
The obligatory political question: Can politics (whichever side of the road) solve global social problems?
I do not want to associate politics and music. Period.
The obligatory digital media question: We all know that digital downloads (legal or not) are changing the music business, would you say this is a challenge or an opportunity, and why?
Well, I think it’s an opportunity, yes !

Really cool article and awesome music. But… that’s not RQTN on the picture ! Here’s a real photo of him : http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_74XjRB1CJng/Spr-za9UTzI/AAAAAAAAEfk/kZEJowlv5y8/s400/51.jpg
