Kafabindünya

What inspires Kafabindünya to continue creating music?
Kafabindünya used to get inspired by some experimental and ambient pieces ofmusic but nowadays we’re back to our roots, remembering all the old SLAYER records we bought when we were little fellows :)

Your last release, “Kafabindünya EP”, was a great success, what’s next?
We actually don’t think it was a success, it was never officially released in the end :)

I know you dont consider yourselves as Post Rock, but the genre generates creative (and often lengthy) band and track names, how does Kafabindünya come up with these?
Kafabindünya means roughly “stoned but cheerful” and roughly points out the “state of euphoria” while playing our songs. or pointed once :) our song names are connected with the mood the songs are written in. kafabindünya’s songs are usually “soundtracks for scenes of movies that never existed”. so the track names are just some words to describe the scene in our minds.

How does Kafabindünya decide which tracks will be on a release? testing them at gigs, or a different method?
Hmm. Summing up all of our’s recent playlists: slayer’s “world painted blood”, them crooked vultures, lightning bolt, russian circles, propogandhi, radiohead.

What have you been listening to recently that you would recommend to your fan base?
Kafabindünya mostly decides which tracks will take place on a release, on purpose or not, by only one thing: time. as time passes we realize we (and mostly i) don’t like to play some of the songs and sometimes i can even say “why the hell did i write this song? it’s too lame!” :)

The obligatory political question: Can politics (whichever side of the road) solve global social problems? Discuss
We are probably the most apolitic band ever but if you ask my opinion (I’m Burç btw) politics are not meant to solve anything, but to make them more complicated or even forgotten :)

The obligatory digital media question: We all know that digital downloads (legal or not) are changing the music business, would you say this is a challenge or an opportunity, and why?
We must say that legal or illegal, digital media is an opportunity because if you heard of “Kafabindünya” from the little lovely (and mostly ugly) country Turkey and dedicated to interview us, that all happens thanks to internet and digital media.
