What inspires The End of the Ocean to continue creating music?

We’re good friends that appreciate music, love playing it, and enjoy being around each other. We’re inspired by faith, love, humanity, and nature. We’re influenced by nostalgia and experience. We are motivated by hope.

Your last release, Calm Seas Don’t Make Sailors, was a great success, what’s next?

We’ve had some pretty major changes in the last few months and two of our members left the band to pursue other passions. It’s been somewhat of a blessing and a curse. We’re not as constricted with time to write and practice, but we haven’t been able to play out much because of it. We feel it was best because it has allowed us more opportunity to focus on our next album. The three of us have a better idea of what we want with it. We are currently finishing up the writing process for our first full-length album and we have plans to release it with a specific label but can’t really say who that is at this time. We can tell you that we expect to have it record and ready to be released by the end of summer/early fall.

Post Rock generates creative (and often lengthy) band and track names, how does The End of the Ocean come up with these?

The band was created out of a concept. We believe that even though there are troubles in life, there is always hope. Our songs reflect that and the titles usually just fall into place from there.

How does The End of the Ocean decide which tracks will be on a release? testing them at gigs, or a different method?

We write for the specific theme that the album will have. All of our songs are written in the same order that they appear on the albums. We also try to keep that same order for when we play live as well.

The obligatory political question: Can politics (whichever side of the road) solve global social problems? Discuss

We aren’t a political band. Politics always ruin everything. All we are concerned about is creating music that we love and sharing it with those who appreciate it.

The obligatory digital media question: We all know that digital downloads (legal or not) are changing the music business, would you say this is a challenge or an opportunity, and why?

We’re all for it. We actually released our EP as a free download to several music blogs, have since heard from people all around the world that said they loved it and couldn’t wait to hear more from us. We had over 2,000 downloads in the first week it was released. This is something that the traditional means of distribution could never offer an unsigned/unheard of band. Many of those people also ordered physical copies. We are aware that there are many ways to support bands other than actually purchasing a physical cd and because of that we consider the digital downloads as tokens of appreciation. Since we’re not in this for any sort of money we don’t care if people purchase our album (although it is much appreciated to earn a few dollars here and there) or download it for free online. We do this because we love creating music
