What inspires YourTenMofo to continue creating music?
For us music is a retreat from everyday life, in which we can get lost, and lose track of time. Just like filling in a Sudoku – only we got more than one way to solve it. We enjoy creating moods and atmospheres and experiment with adequate structures for them. A sculptor carves his ideas in stone we, articulate ideas and thoughts with sounds.

Your last release, Things Change While Helium Listen To Everyone, was a great success, what’s next?
At present we are working on our second album. Irrespective of the music on our debut we try to realize our current musical worlds. There are no creative or stylistic boundaries and guidelines nor do we attempt to satisfy audience’s expectations of any kind.

Post Rock generates creative (and often lengthy) band and track names, how does YourTenMofo come up with these?
Our band name we got from an online band name generator – we tried to keep it free from any kind of (pseudo-)meaning or genre conventions. Song names we choose with respect to musical content. Song titles often summarize a track’s lyrics or reflect the main message. Since we hardly work with traditional lyrics we can only suggest text-based images in our titles. This holds true for our debut – nevertheless we already have in mind something completely different for the second album.

How does YourTenMofo decide which tracks will be on a release? testing them at gigs, or a different method?
The only criterion is the album’s cohesion and not the quality of individual tracks or audience feedback

What have you been listening to recently that you would recommend to your fan base?

The obligatory political question: Can politics (whichever side of the road) solve global social problems? Discuss
Only global politics could – if it existed.

The obligatory digital media question: We all know that digital downloads (legal or not) are changing the music business, would you say this is a challenge or an opportunity, and why?
We believe it is a great opportunity for everyone. Never before has there been a wider range of music and styles around and never before have there been more people enjoying the music they like. Quite obviously, the focus is shifting towards live performance.
